1789

Where we came from

This was the most important year in evian water history. Marquis de Lessert, a local French nobleman, discovered our natural spring water source in the town of Évian-les-Bains. He found this water to be so light and easily drinkable.

1806

From the Cachat source...

Seduced by the quality of the natural water flowing from the source in his garden, Monsieur Cachat began selling it to the local community. After discovering its therapeutic qualities, people wanted more than just to drink the water, they wanted to be fully immersed in it. So, in 1806, the first thermal spa opened. In 1826, the first bottling facility was installed on the site of the Cachat source. Its popularity attracted visitors from all over Europe and beyond.

The Company of the Mineral Waters of Evian and the evian® brand were then created in order to develop the activities of thermalism and water bottling. Driven by the increasing demand of people who wanted to enjoy evian® benefits at home, a larger scale bottling started at the end of the 19th century. Ever since, our evian® water has become synonymous with healthy hydration and wellness.

1978

Importation

Keeping with our passion for pioneering, Danone Waters of America became the first to import a premium natural mineral water brand-evian-in the US and Canada in 1978, but we didn't stop there.

2022

Certified B Corp

Danone Waters of America was officially certified as a B Corp™ in 2019. We're also proud to be the #2 premium still water worldwide*, sold in more than 140 different countries!
